Consultation and Discussion on Draft Constitution in the Meeting held
on 12-03-2007 in Faisalabad
As per “Program of the Day” M. Iqbal Shuja Convener TCOP delivered Key-note of “Freedom of Association” and Threw light on ILO Conventions 87, 98 and also mentioned Articles provided in the Pakistan’s Constitution in this regard.

Later on he answered the questions put by the participants about the prevailing situation in the country in regard to “FOA” and Trade Union Rights to Workers in Education.

Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Co-convener submitted the previous consultations minutes and activity report specially concerning to AFT / ACILS meetings with Provincial Teachers Leaders held at Karachi, Quetta, Lahore and Peshawar in the house for the information and confirmation from the participants and got their signatures on the report.

The main object of these consultations was to discuses the “Draft Constitution” which was discussed thoroughly clause and Article wise by the participants.

In these consultation many amendments, suggestions and comments were noted by the reporter Muhammad Nawaz, finally agreed amendments would be inscribed in the constitution for adoption in the “Founding Convention”. AFT constitution was distributed among the TCOP Affiliated Associations for their guidance in restructuring and framing their constitution by adopting the better parts of it, which would be well suited with their local and country’s environment needs.

Specimen of membership form and card were also given to the participants and were advised to launch membership campaign and enhance paid membership for maintaining the legal status of their respective Associations and incurring the expenses for carrying out their programs and activities at their own cost and without seeking financial help from any side, as financially strong Association can involve in multifarious activities without any financial hardship.

All participants expressed their views on previous consultation and admitted the usefulness, immense significance and vital importance of these consultations in bringing teachers’ organizations together under the common Banner of TCOP, so that they could assert united efforts to uplift the status of teachers and promoting quality education and creating free, democratic and imperative atmosphere in the society as well. In the last session participants expressed their grave concern over the eye soaring illness of brother Greg Schulze and Prayed to God for his early health recovery.

In the end certificates of participation in consultation were distributed among the participants.

Lastly Mr. Muhammad Nawaz casted vote of thank.
